SHIZUOKA INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION COMPETITION
   The Shizuoka International Translation Competition (Shizuoka sekai hon’yaku konkuru) was created to introduce outstanding works of Japanese literature to foreign audiences and to promote international understanding. Begun in 1995 by Shizuoka Prefecture, the biannual competition has included the target languages English, French, Korean, Chinese, Russian, and German. Prizes are given for translations of contest-selected short stories and critical reviews. Only previously unpublished translators may compete.
